Code Creatures was a creative coding workshop designed for children at the Fête du Code Créatif, a family-oriented coding festival hosted at the Centre Pompidou in 2015. The concept was expanded in 2016 into a larger-scale installation at Gaité Lyrique during Futur en Seine.
A simplified pseudo‑code system built in Processing enabled children to assemble their own creature—choosing body, arms, eyes, and more. Once created, creatures were sent in real-time to a shared digital “Paysage,” developed by Jonathan Perret (ut7), where designs from multiple participants would coexist with their generative design on a large display.
Workshops invited continuous interaction, combining coding, visual creation, and shared digital play.
The format encouraged collaborative learning and visual experimentation. Dozens of children (and accompanying adults) created unique, evolving ecosystems on screen, bringing together playfulness, programming logic, and collective art-making.
